Swedavia is enhancing its sustainability initiatives by fostering a collaborative procurement model to increase the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Since opening its purchasing program to outside organizations in 2019, the Swedish airport operator has successfully attracted diverse partners, including the first-ever participation from a local municipality and continued support from emergency services.

This collective funding strategy is crucial for overcoming the high market price of eco-friendly fuel, which remains significantly more expensive than traditional options. By pooling resources with industry and government entities, Swedavia is able to secure much larger quantities of SAF than it could alone, creating a more stable and scalable supply chain for lower-emissions air travel.
